Prayer
Prayer is one of the essential ingredients to a growing relationship with God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. A good relationship is one where there is communication. That's what prayer is. It's simply communication with God. God talks to you, you talk to God.
As we grow in our relationship with God, there must be prayer. If you have a friend, but you only talk to them once a year, the relationship will suffer. The fellowship may become strained, and you may find yourself growing farther and farther away. You may call each other friends, but it won't be evident in your lives.
The same is true with God. If we only talk to Him occasionally, the relationship suffers. The fellowship may be strained. Not on God's part, but You don't know what to say to Him. It may even get to the point, when He speaks to you, you don't recognize His voice. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice." However that's dependent on a strong relationship with Him, which should be evident in your lives.
Let's endeavor to make our relationship stronger with God. It involves getting to know Him through His Word and prayer.
