Today with Jesus

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 1:8

The Power of the Highest

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Ephesians 1:18-19

The Apostle Paul often prayed that the Church’s understanding would be enlightened to know the exceeding greatness of God’s power to the Believer. He said exceeding greatness. It’s not just God’s power. It’s beyond that. It’s not just His great power. It’s beyond that. It’s the surpassing great power. It’s so tremendous, it’s so extreme, and it’s so extravagant, that the unbeliever would call it “grossly exaggerated.” God wants us to know the exceeding greatness of His power toward those who believe in it.

The Holy Spirit is the working power of God in the earth. He was the power Source in the creation and re-creation (Genesis 1:2, Psalm 104:30, Job 26:13). He was operative in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus (Romans 8:11, 1 Corinthians 6:14). He was also operative in the birth of our Savior. Gabriel, the angel of the Lord told Mary that she was going to conceive and birth the Savior. She was a virgin. She had never had sex with a man. How was this going to happen?

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Luke 1:35

The angel of the Lord told Mary, the Holy Ghost was going to come on her and then the power of the Highest would produce a baby. Wow! Here’s one of those exceeding greatness of God’s power. The Holy Ghost (the active Force) was able to impregnate her because she accepted and believed (Luke 1:45). The power toward those who will believe is exceedingly great.

We see the power of God throughout the Bible. Many people have been delivered by God’s great power. Although not always expressed, the Spirit of God is the Force behind the power. God delivered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace (Daniel 3). How is it possible that they weren’t consumed? The men who threw them in the furnace died because of intensity of the fire. No doubt the power of God came on them that no part of their being burned or smelled of smoke, not even their clothes.

When we have respect unto God’s power Source, the Holy Spirit, He’s able to do exceedingly great things in our lives. Do you need God’s power in your life? Then receive His Gift of the Holy Spirit.
