Developing the Relationship

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
John 17:3

Eternal life is knowing the only true God and the Lord Jesus Christ. It involves a relationship. God desires a relationship with you. Not just any relationship, but an intimate one; a relationship where the fellowship is very personal.

The Apostle Paul understood this. He walked in such fellowship with God and the Lord Jesus that God would tell him things pertaining to the future. Sometimes God would give Him instruction concerning where he should preach the gospel. God even encouraged and strengthen him while he was in prison.

Paul knew the benefit of walking with the Lord in relationship and fellowship. He had a strong relationship with the Lord. He knew it was God’s will that we also have fellowship with Him. And he prayed this for the churches. We should also pray this not only for others, but also ourselves.

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Colossians 1:9-12

Praying this prayer regularly will develop a stronger relationship with God. There will be a greater understanding of God’s will for one’s life. The knowledge of God will increase. Over time, there will be a noticeable change in one’s overall behavior. It will be more pleasing to God the Father.

For someone who wants to grow spiritually, this is an excellent prayer. Pray it every day for yourself and for those you love, and watch God work a change in your life and those you love.
