Forgiveness of Sin

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive usour sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

Forgiveness of sins is at the heart of the gospel. Every one of us needs to be forgiven, because every one of us is born into sin. We inherited it from Adam, the first man (Romans 5:12). It’s not unusual when people sin. It’s in our nature. The problem with this is that sin produces death. The Scripture is very clear on this.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23

The forgiveness of sins is a wonderful promise we have in Jesus. If we confess, that is, acknowledge and admit to our sins, God will forgive us. This is a promise of God. You can depend on Him to do just as He says, because He's faithful. He’s true to His Word. He does not lie. If we will do our part, He will do His part.

The Lord Jesus is the answer to the problem of sin. He came to free us from the curse of sin, because all have sinned. The Apostle Paul said it is through Jesus we have forgiveness of sins (Acts 13:38). However, it’s not an automatic thing. We have a part to play. Jesus did His part. We must do are part.

What’s our part? Confession. “If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Confession of sin is acknowledging sin. It’s admitting to it. I messed up. I blew it. It’s admitting the error. God will forgive you. David, king of Israel understood this. He messed up. He sinned. How did David handle his sin?

I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
Psalm 32:5

Just as God forgave David of his sin, He will forgive you of yours. He wants to forgive you, so He can bless you. Sin will stop the blessings of God from coming into your life. Sin will also cause judgment to come. God wants to bless you, but you get the blessings on His terms. After all, He is God. His word tells us we must confess or admit to our sins. If we do this, He said He will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

God is ready and waiting for you to come to Him.
