Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15
At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates: And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
Deuteronomy 14:28-29
There are many people who believe that tithing (giving a tenth of your income) is under the law. And Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13). While it’s true Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, understand that tithing is not part of the curse. Throughout the Old Testament there are references to the curse. Deuteronomy chapter 28 gives a comprehensive list. Tithing is not listed as a curse. Actually, tithing is a blessing.
Tithing opens the door for God to bless you. Withholding the tithe opens the door for the curse (Malachi 3:9). Tithing is part of the blessing. Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law so that the blessing of Abraham will come on the Gentiles. Abraham was blessed in all things, and he tithed.
Tithing has a two-fold blessing. It’s to be used to bless God’s ministers, strangers (those new to the church), orphans and widows. God expects us to help others. A truly religious person is one who helps others.
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
James 1:27
Tithing also will bless you. It makes the way possible for God to bless all that you do. The law of seedtime and harvest takes place. Even in the secular world, many businesses have experienced the blessing of God. They may not quite realize it’s from God, but there’s a blessing that comes with helping the poor. They give to charitable organizations and they reap of that blessing. You will reap what you sow. That’s an established word of God
Let’s open the way for God to bless us. Not just for the benefit of what we can get for ourselves, but by being a blessing to others. God told Abram, I will bless you, and you will be a blessing (Genesis 12:2).
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Malachi 3:10
