Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
Psalm 1:1-3
God will bless those who walk in His counsel. The counsel of God is the ways of God. God’s ways are detailed in His word. God promises success to those who walk in His ways.
Moses is an excellent example of someone walking in the counsel of God. He was chosen to lead the children of Israel out of bondage and the land of Egypt. There were obstacles from the beginning. The king of Egypt would not release them. The children of Israel rebelled again and again. Moses obeyed the counsel of God, and God brought him great success.
Uzziah the king of Judah is another example of success when one seeks the counsel of God. He was sixteen years old when he became king. Sixteen is very young to rule over a kingdom. One thing he knew to do, and that was to seek the counsel of the Lord.
And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.
2 Chronicles 26:5
God blesses those who walk in His counsel. He causes them to prosper and be successful in all that they do. The word of God is His counsel. Deuteronomy 28 describes wonderful blessings to those who “hearken diligently” to all of God’s instructions. It also describes curses that accompany those who refuse God’s counsel.
Many of us have found ourselves under the curse at some time or another. Somewhere we did something (whether knowingly or unknowingly) outside of God’s counsel. The smart thing to do is to return to the Lord and seek out His counsel. That’s what Manasseh, king of Judah did.
And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, And prayed unto him: and he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he wasGod.
2 Chronicles 26:5
It says he humbled himself greatly before God and God restored him his kingdom. He began to walk in the ways of God instead of the ways of the ungodly. He started sacrificing peace and thank offerings to the Lord.
